Oscar..part one point five (I'm sure there will be more)
I found out that Oscar is not crate trained. I thought that the organization kind of made this mandatory, but I found out that since he was heartworm positive, that he could not be crated. I have no idea why, but I should probably find this out sometime in the future.
I set up Madison's spare crate, and Poor Oscar is just too big for it. So, I'm going to have to throw some blankets and pillows in there for Madison and let Oscar have the larger crate. *sigh*
So, as I was cooking dinner, I decided that having one basset running between my legs was enough, much less two. I crated both of them up, and Oscar actually responded well to being crated. He did let out a few whines, but I hope he's tired enough later that I can actually sleep in my bed...ALONE! (Adam is in Berlin)
After I called Oscar's new family to tell them how he was doing, I told his new "mommy" that he hasn't ran through the baby gate we have set up to block off the back part of the apartment for the cats. Apparently I spoke too soon. I sat down to allow myself to digest, and I heard something go *crash*. Well, it wasn't that big, but I thought they got a hold of something in the kitchen. Madison just looked at me with her "I didn't do it" face, and for once, I believed it. Oscar was no where to be found. He was hanging out in the bathroom, then decided to have a sniff at the litter boxes, and then decided to run in the bedroom (where the cats are).
I've found out that Oscar is pretty submissive. I was pretty hesitant to shove his butt in the crate as well as pull on his collar to get him out of my bedroom. Some dogs have a tendency to growl (I won't mention names *ahemmadisonahem*). He's been running into the front room (where I am now) and lets out these sighs/whines. I know he's probably really confused as to what is going on, but this is all going much smoother than I had anticipated when I brought him back. I do, however, have fears that I will have to keep both dogs uncrated this evening. I don't think it's fair to crate Madison and not Oscar since he is a guest in this house, and I won't have him roaming around the apartment pissing on things. He already marked his territory on my yarn tote, which thankfully, is water proof. A sigh of relief, at least. We'll see how it goes. They're both camped out on the floor flat-basset style. I've taken a few pictures, and I'll probably post them later tonight, if not tomorrow. I hope this all goes well, and things can remain semi-normal with keeping them crated overnight and me sleeping in the bed with my other two furbabies.
