the week(end) review...sort of.

I started back to school on Thursday. Once I got there, I was really excited to meet my new professors, and try to meet some new people (that part failed). My first class is Fundamentals of Earth History with Dr. R. I enjoyed what part of the class that was taught. A majority of my classes, just like any other first day, were mostly introductions and getting settled/situated for the reast of the semester. Dr. R. has some students that had him in previous classes, including myself. He did forewarn people that his classes tend to be on the hard side, and if any new comers had any questions, to ask the veterans. I had honestly thought about sending a class e-mail about actual expectations of the class, even though they're in the syllabus. I decided not to. I had to find out the hard way, and so should they. Yes, kind of rude of me but whatever.

My second class is the final writing class (I think) that I'll need to take toward my degree. I enjoyed the professor, but not so much the walk. I have to walk from IT to NU which is around 6 blocks or so. I had gone to campus a few days before to do a time trial as to how long it would take me to get there. It took me approximately 7 minutes to get to CA at Codi-pace. Well, when I started walking to class, I didn't bother to factor in carrying every book I need for the day. I have little to no time to even stop at my car to drop-off/exchange books. That's the part that sucks. I have to have my books for all of my classes with me all day. *grumble* The walk was very long, and very hot. I decided immediately that I needed to invest in a new bag. I had bought a Crumpler Wee Bee to carry my iBook in last year, but it's just not working out this semester. I absolutely love their bags. They're very strong and durable, and that's what I need, however, carrying books for four classes, not so much. My back still isn't as strong as it was since my injury from this time last year. My back was killing me, my legs were burning, and I was sweating like a hog. So much for wearing jeans to school until Fall!

Then I finally get a break to eat! By then, I was famished. I had packed some Chinese broccoli and chicken to eat for lunch. I think as we all know, you 1) have to be in the mood to eat Chinese and 2) eating Chinese food when you're hot is probably not such a good idea. I ate about half of it, and I preferred eating my apple I had brought with me. I think I've decided to stick to cold sandwiches and fruit from now on.

After lunch is my Intro. to Sociology course. The professor's a little odd, but I like him. At first I was worried since I didn't have the exact book that everyone else did. I had the international edition that's not sold in N. America. I have no idea how I wound up with this book since I ordered it with the IBSN from my campus bookstore website. I showed it to him, and he wasn't worried about it. The chapter names were the same, and the page numbering was only a little off. It's a sociology class. Unless I have a totally different text book, it really shouldn't matter. He gave us the syllabus, and we have another book we need to read. It's called Nickel & Dimed. It's about a woman who moves around the country, takes minimum wages jobs, and tries to get by on that living. Sounds interesting to say the least.

Last was my Intro. to Political Science course. I looked around the class to see the other students. Now, I'm not one to assume, but it looked as though I was the only one (minus the professor) that was even old enough to have voted in two presidential elections. That's not saying much, considering I look about 16 years old. We had to fill out some survey for the professor. He asked questions about how we view politics and what part we've played in politics. The questions were a little confusing, but I had written down that I had participated in more than one presidential election. He asked how old I was, and I told him twenty-four. He seemed surprised but whatever. He was rather intimidating at first. He came in looking like he had just left the Indiana Republican Party office (I can't believe I just went to their page, much less linked to it!). He was wearing nicely polished shoes, pressed slacks, red tie, and blue dress shirt. Seems I had him figured wrong. Not that it matters since it's a political science class but still. He was an attorney in California, and [I think] this is the first class he's taught. We discussed class expectations, and he told us we would have to write a paper about a specific political topic be it local or international. He will be making a list of things, and only one person in the class can write a paper on a topic. He had mentioned some topics that will probably be on the list. One was Roe v. Wade. I had kind of made mention after class that I would like to write my paper on this topic. He smiled and nodded, and I went on my way home.

Yesterday was a mess. Adam hadn't been able to find his only pair of shorts for several days. I was also missing a few tank tops that I had just bought a few months ago. I came to the conclusion that I had probably left them at the laundrymat on accident. I felt so bad. I offered to buy Adam a new pair of shorts to make up for it. This called for a trip to Target. I got some new tank tops, and Adam got some new shorts. We also went to Dick's Sporting Goods to get pads to sleep on when we go camping. We did the math, and after buying two of those pads, we may as well buy an inflatable matress. I came home, aired it up, and it's nice! I can't wait to sleep in comfort while camping next weekend. :P

After all of that, we went to Music 101. Frankie Vega, Matt Bandy, Gizzmo, and Punisher were all playing. I've never really spoken to Punisher, but the other's, we're very close to. I did some catching up with friends, had a Guinness, and we came home. Once we got home, we started watching Nova. They were showing a segment on how Earth and life began. I made it about an hour into the show and passed out.

Now, I need to do much homework reading!

We still need help with donations for Madison!

What a hectic day you had at school... and so much walking too! It's too bad segways are so expensive - souldn't it be cool to buzz around on one of those (between classes)?
Blah - I hate carrying heavy books! It's the most uncomfortable thing... I know this sounds totally cheesy, but if you could find a bag with a roller on it - to drag around with you - it would make life so much easier.

I had actually thought about it. I used to make fun of those people who used them years ago. Now I see why they do. Adam did suggest that I use his laptop backpack at least to try out before I blow $60 on a new bag. I haven't taken it to school yet, but the weight distribution is totally different. Hopefully that one will work.

This is the first time I've had this kind of problem, really. Normally my classes are over 40 minutes apart, so I'm able to make it to drop stuff off to my car.

However, my first class is in the IT building (by West & Michigan in the map) and the others (besides writing) are in CA which is on University & Vermont. There really is no happy medium as to where to park my car. It seemed like everyone was trying to park over by the CA building on Thursday. I figured I may as well just find whatever parking spot I could.
